Pokemon: Indigo League – Season One, Part 2
Pokemon: Indigo League - Season One, Part 2
Join Ash, Brock and Misty on their continuing quest to collect Pok‚mon, make friends, and battle their way to the Indigo League!

As the first season of the runaway hit fantasy Pokemon concludes, Ash, Misty, and Brock continue their journey to the Pokemon League, a journey that was the focus of the original Red and Blue versions of the game. Most of the episodes follow a set pattern: Ash and his companions encounter a trainer with a new type of Pokemon; the initial friction between them disappears when they ally to combat the comic villainy of Team Rocket. At the end of each episode, the trio walks into the sunset, having made a new friend. Ash makes little progress in his quest to become a Pokemon Master, except in episode 31, when he wins the Soul Badge (the sixth of the required eight) at the Fuchsia City Gym. But each program offers a lesson that emphasizes friendship, perseverance, good sportsmanship, and/or ecological awareness. In episode 36, Ash tries to get Pikachu to stay with the wild members of his species, but their emotional bond proves too strong. The trio wins the respect of a punk cycle gang when they ride 10 miles in the rain to take medicine to a sick Pokemon. Although it’s product-based and excessively cute at times, Pokemon is far more entertaining than such smarmy, shamelessly commercial properties as Strawberry Shortcake and The Care Bears. Pokemon debuted in America in 1995, and a new group of kids are convinced they’ve “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” (the English translation of Pokemon Getto Daze!, literally “Let’s Get Pokemon!”). Pokemon - Adventures on the Orange Islands Box Set
After a stop in Pallet Town, Ash, Misty and Brock set out to find a rare and mysterious Pokeball for Professor Oak. Their quest leads them to the Orange Islands, where Ash decides to battle in the Orange League Tournament. With new friends to meet, new Pokemon to discover, and tough new trainers to challenge them, the adventures never end for Ash and his friends!

Includes 36 episodes of Pokemon fun and adventure!

The Orange Islands continuity (1999) serves as a bridge between the longer Pokemon storylines about the Indigo League (1997) and Johto League (1999) adventures. Professor Oak sends Ash, Misty and Brock to the Orange Islands to retrieve the mysterious GS Pokeball found by fellow researcher Professor Ivy. When they reach her lab, moonstruck Brock decides to stay with the Professor and her three female assistants. Ash and Misty are soon joined by Tracey, a “Pokemon Watcher” in training who sketches. After the perpetually amorous Brock, he makes a rather bland companion, although the caricatures of Groucho Marx and Clint Eastwood they encounter liven things up a bit. The characters roam aimlessly from island to island, escaping the snares of the inept Team Rocket, who stalk them in a submarine disguised as a giant Magicarp and a balloon that looks like Meowth. Ash wins the Coral Eye, Sea Ruby, Spike Shell, and Jade Star badges, which qualify him for the Orange League Tournament, where he finally learns to make his recalcitrant Charizard obey him. These stories lack a narrative arc: Ash’s battles at the various gyms don’t escalate, nor is there any sense of urgency to the mission to return the GS ball. The adventure concludes with Ash, Misty, and Tracey returning to Pallet Town, just in time to encounter the long-absent Gary. Professor Oak invites Tracey to become his assistant, so Brock, who’s been jilted by Ivy and her assistants, sets out with Ash and Misty for the Johto League.
